Hidden Places, a solo show of new and recent work by Graham Dean, will celebrate 50 years of exhibiting by the artist.

Born in Birkenhead in 1951Graham made Brighton his home over 30 years ago. His brimming CV shows an artist with a vast and varied career, with work in many public collections in the UK and around the world and whose collaborations with film makers musicians and writers stretch across all his 50 years of exhibiting.

Graham Dean wrote recently:
“I find that now I’m older I’m attracted to ambiguity, images which are difficult to pin down, ones that evade easy description. Works are often comprised of several sections, where each sheet is painted separately and then reassembled collage-like by ripping tearing and finally gluing the painting together, its only then do I see the whole picture."

This Is The Seventh Wave is a hopeful show about transformation and belonging, which brings together a group of international but locally-based artists for whom the sea, and specifically the sea of Brighton and Hove, has come to constitute a strong source for creation and dialogue.

Referring to the idea that in a set of waves, the seventh one will always be the strongest, it offers up the ocean as a site for (human and more-than-human) collaboration and connection, not only a place of reflection and becoming, but a call to action on issues such as climate futures/pasts, migration and sustainability.

Exhibition: SHOALING
Red Herring Studios group show

We are delighted that local institution Red Herring Studios are holding their 40th anniversary exhibition SHOALING here at The Regency Town House. 

SHOALING brings together work by 15 artists and makers from Red Herring Studios (based in Portslade) in the glorious rooms of The Regency Town House.

Red Herring is an artists’ cooperative that has been providing working space for artists and other initiatives around Brighton & Hove for 39 years.

SHOALING is the first collectively curated exhibition of the studios’ current iteration. The exhibition unites and explores the range of practices and approaches represented by the group, celebrating the richness and diversity of ideas and media and responding to the building.

Brunswick Town: Regency Tour & Tea

Take a step back in time with our unique walking tour of Brunswick Town, led by a knowledgeable guide dressed as a Regency gentleman from Brighton in 1831.

As you stroll through the streets, you'll hear tales of how the town came into being and learn about its most colourful characters. Your guide will bring the era to life, based on extensive research, transporting you back in time to the bustling, vibrant world of Regency England.

After your walk, you'll be invited back to The Regency Town House, where you can enjoy an authentic afternoon tea in a stunning period setting.

Sip on delicious tea and nibble on homemade cakes, scrumptious sandwiches, and delightful scones with cream and jam, all while basking in the ambiance of a bygone era.

Please let us know if you have any food allergies or special dietary needs when booking.

The guided walks will commence from The Regency Town House, 13 Brunswick Square, Hove BN3 1EH at 1.15 pm prompt and the walk will last approximately seventy-five minutes.
