Brighton Festival 2013

4th – 26th May 2013

The 47th annual Brighton Festival - a three week celebration of music, theatre, dance, circus, art and film.

As part of the Festival, HOUSE 2013 presented a newly commissioned work by internationally respected Lead Artist Mariele Neudecker, exploring the theme of Art and Domestic Space.

A model of the 'Iceberg' installation by Mariele Neudecker, showing several flat cut-out figures arranged around a representation of the iceberg on a plywood base.

"Mariele Neudecker’s visionary installation transforms The Regency Town House into a container of landscapes.

This major new commission uses several interconnected artworks to explore both the familiar and sublime. The cropped edge in Neudecker’s landscapes becomes a form of human intervention: her representations of vast panoramas are limited by lenses, or narrowed by cones of torchlight.

As the installation progresses through The Regency Town House, we travel with it from the dark emptiness of deep sea space in the basement to sun-filled images on the first floor. And in the process, the outside is brought inside, both physically and metaphorically."

The Regency Town House hosted an evening preview of the art exhibition at the house as well as an audience with the artist Mariele Neudecker.
