Today (Tuesday 1 September 2009), Griff Rhys Jones, Baroness Andrews the newly appointed Chair of English Heritage, and Minister for Culture, Barbara Follett MP, visited Brighton to launch Heritage Open Days (HODs) and Brighton & Hove Open Door (BHOD) this years largest HODs event.
Griff and Baroness Andrews began the day with a press-call, visiting a house in Kensington Place that is opening for this year's BHOD and which is involved in the MyHouseMyStreet BHOD exhibitions. This event was attended by media representatives from BBC TV, The Guardian, The Telegraph, AP, The Argus, Culture 24 and others Thereafter, Griff participated in a BBC radio interview in the Corporation's Queen's Road studios.
After lunch, Baroness Andrews was joined by Minister Follett, the Mayor and the Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council along with some 150 other invited guests for an official launch party. This event ended with guests taking a series of special walks and talks provided to mark the occasion.
Brighton & Hove Open Door is staged 10-13 September and offers 155 free events celebrating the City's architecture and culture.
