Volunteer
If you would like to help us conserve and promote Brighton and Hove's Regency heritage why not join our volunteer team?
We are always on the lookout for people with a little spare time to help us with our activities and projects. Tasks range widely, from researching and recording archival information to cleaning and restoring historic buildings, or perhaps you would like to assist us in organising an event? Whatever your abilities, the main qualification required is an abundance of enthusiasm! If you've got that and are keen to help, we'd like to hear from you.
Become a volunteer
We rely heavily on volunteer help, in almost every area of our work. We believe volunteering should be fun and to that end we have tough anti-discrimination policies and aim to make volunteers feel informed, confident and happy when they work with us.
If you'd like to talk about our current opportunities please contact Nick Tyson or download, complete and return our volunteer application form (27KB,doc).
Typical Volunteer Opportunities
Help us to catalogue objects & documents into our archive.
Office jobs are wide ranging but often include: photocopying, data entry, keeping leaflets and posters up to date, booking tours, etc. Possibly, you might find yourself organising an event or publicising one!
There are a wide range of things that we need researching at any one time. Although projects change, common areas of work include: writing articles for our displays and the website; working in libraries and archives, gathering cataloguing information from online sources, etc.
After the success of our summer open days 2001 we are aiming to open the house more regularly to the public. Therefore we are building up a rota of people who can man the house/shop etc when we are open. Stewards will be required to man rooms in the house, answer questions from the public and man the shop and front door.
Guides are always a welcome addition to the team. Of course, you will need to learn about the Town House to undertake this role but you can also carry notes with with you whilst giving a tour.
As the restoration at the house is ongoing we constantly need people to help out with practical work. Jobs range from general tidying up through stripping wall paper to more delicate tasks like making ornamental plaster details and stenciling designs onto walls and ceilings..
