Front area

The front area is the small paved area directly in front of the basement, reached down a small flight of steps. The doors in the wall of the area open into cellars under the pavement.

Three of these were used for storing coal, which was delivered through small "eyes" or holes in the pavement above. This coal was used for the fireplaces in the main house. The very end cellar, to the left of the basement door was used for storing beer.
